Day 53- Little Harbour and Pete’s Birthday
Today is Saturday, January 24, 2009 and Little Harbour is full of visitors who have come to celebrate the sculptor/pub operator—Pete Johnston. Honestly, we are not even sure which one of the 50ish aged men at the Pub is actually Pete, but we helped celebrate anyway!
Here are some pix of the partiers gathered under the trees—which is the Pub. There is an outdoor pit where wild boar was being roasted for the occasion—we had some and although it was very good, we don’t think it was “wild boar,” probably good ol’ domestic pig. Some of the islands in the Exumas do have wild boars, but that tasty pig at Pete’s Pub was not likely wild.

Here are a couple of pictures of us with our good friends Bob & Laurel who cruise aboard the bright yellow Sunburst catamaran that Bob built in Michigan.
And here are our good friends paddling around the Harbour in their home-built kayaks. And yes, Laurel did build hers! By-the-way, Bob and Laurel’s next adventure will be to build a straw-bale house on their property near Flagstaff, AZ. (Note to Nancy, Tom, and Mom: B&L had a book of straw-bale houses aboard their boat and I found a whole chapter on Motts Myermon (sp?) and Judy Knox. Actually, I thought Nancy & Tom’s straw-bale house might be pictured—but no. Someday, we will need to connect all of you guys. The small world thing continues!)
From Pete’s Pub, you can get a good view of Little Harbour. You can see how content Caribbean Soul is on its mooring (which is rented from Pete’s Pub).
We motored around in our dinghy and saw the caves that Pete lived in with his artist parents when they first came to the Harbour in the 1950’s. You also may notice that there is a real estate sign in front, so you could purchase one if you wish!
The water in the Harbour is so clear that underwater wild life is observable from the boat. We didn’t even disturb the starfish when we took its picture.
These pictures are of the dinghy parking lot at Pete’s Pub. Goodness! How does one figure out which rubber boat is theirs?
