Finding Stone Cairns at White Point

Day 97- Sunset at White Point

Our second day at White Point, Monday, March 9th, was lovely. Six or eight sailboats breezed past our idyllic anchorage, but didn’t stop—yay!
We hung out in the cockpit reading and enjoying the view most of the morning and then John got into gear fixing things. He fixed the roller furler, the hand pump for fresh water and the water filter system! Impressive—yes?
Then after supper we went ashore to see the stone cairns at sunset. We apologize for the strange coloration of these pictures, but our camera is old and we have been experimenting with some settings. You can, however, see the lovely pink sandstone shore with lots of stone cairns. I posed with the most elaborate one. The rest were just stacks of flat stones. We do not have a story to go with the cairns as they didn’t seem to be blazing any kind of trail or paying homage to any particular deity, so feel free to make up your own story. Maybe there is something deep and powerful there; however, we think the cruising folks who stop here just couldn’t resist stacking these funny, flat stones that fill the water’s edge. Eventually the ones left in the water will turn into more pink soft sand, I suppose.

Here’s Captain John and the setting sun!
